We built a complex interlinked system for our customer, Klingel in Waiblingen.
Technical information:
- Total length of the system: 20 meters
- Parts fed from a mesh box using a 3D vision system
- Laser marking of components for traceability
- Three SPINNER Microturn machines share the machining tasks
- Five robots handle the parts
- Press-fitting of plain bearing bushes
- Removal directly into special lapping masks
- System cycle time 10 seconds/component in 24/7 operation
For some tasks, we were able to draw on solutions we had already implemented.
Other challenges had to be solved from scratch and demanded everything from design and programming.
Above all, the construction work in the height of summer will remain in the memory of everyone involved for a long time to come. At times, temperatures under the hall ceilings reached almost 40°C, meaning that no T-shirt remained dry.
After the usual initial teething problems, we were able to work with the customer to iron out the kinks step by step.
The customer's excellent error documentation helped us in this regard. It allows us to see whether and how our measures are taking effect and proving themselves in everyday use. At the same time, we can connect to all system components via remote maintenance and analyze error patterns in greater depth. This is an indispensable tool given the complexity of the system.
The final task now is to fully tune the system cycle to 10 seconds/component. The rough optimizations have already been implemented. Now it's time to tackle the many distributed tenths of a second. Every little bit counts. This will keep us busy until early 2024.
Thanks to many dedicated colleagues, however, we will also master this challenge to the customer's satisfaction.
