Solution:
For the production of its high-precision inclinometers, Wyler relies on a combination of a SPINNER U5-630 and the ROBOBOXtreme automation solution. This enables the complete 6-side machining of the housings to be carried out in a single, integrated manufacturing cell without compromising on the required dimensional, form, and positional tolerances.
With its 12,000 rpm spindle and SK40 tool holder, the U5-630 delivers the performance required for demanding aluminum machining. The 54-tool magazine ensures that a wide range of tools is available at all times, eliminating the need for frequent manual retooling. The machine is operated via the Heidenhain TNC 7, which enables intuitive and fast programming.
Cooling is a key factor in component quality: A 70 bar high-pressure system with internal cooling, along with an external coolant system, ensures stable processes and long tool life. In addition, a spindle probe and the LASER BLUM tool measurement system continuously monitor machining quality, ensuring that the required tolerances are reliably maintained.
Since Wyler manufactures a full range of different inclination measuring devices, flexible automation was required. The ROBOBOXtreme offers 8 different clamping devices for this purpose, which allow the respective components to be secured with a precise fit and individually adjustable clamping force. Eight drawers serve as component storage, providing sufficient capacity for a low-labor production operation, while a QR code scanner ensures the correct assignment of components and prevents mix-ups.
Wyler also placed particular emphasis on the automation system’s ease of use: Switching between different components and clamping devices can be done even without prior knowledge, significantly reducing setup time.
The result is a flexible, precise, and user-friendly manufacturing cell that enables Wyler to produce its diverse range of inclinometers efficiently and with consistently high quality.
