Requirement:
- Automated finishing of long, round milled parts.
- Working with the robot without prior knowledge.
- 4-axis milling machine.
- Position-oriented feeding.
- Preservation of finished parts.
Considerations:
Space plays a major role for this customer, and the automation system must also be quickly adaptable to different components. Based on these specifications, the space-saving and flexible U-630 solution with ROBOBOXadvanced was chosen.
Solution:
We were able to supply the customer with two identical automated milling machines for their production facility. We integrated a fourth axis into the three-axis table of the U-630, which allows two components to be finished simultaneously. The automation is based on a ROBOBOX advanced with specific special extensions. Among other things, we integrated a camera system that detects the rotational position of the raw parts so that the robot can transfer the components to the machine in the correct position for machining. After machining, the components are preserved by the robot in a separate preservation unit to protect them against corrosion. The finished parts are then returned to the drawers of the ROBOBOX. A double SPC storage station allows the operator to remove components for statistical process control.
